Humans of the south bay
History is written by those who won, those who have power and those who have money. But what about the rest of humanity. Our job was to collect the stories and history of everyone else and that’s exactly what we did. We interviewed family members, friends, coaches, elders, siblings, teachers and strangers. We gathered their history and are celebrating their lives here today and forever through this project. We are here to remember and appreciate them before it is too late.
I choose to interview a family friend who I have a lot of respect for, and the best way to honor with was through this project. His name is Mr. Mike Moore and I have know him for about a year. Through this project I was able to learn more about him and his life; my respect for him greatly increased.

Pre INTERVIEW PROCESS
Before we were allowed to conduct our actual interview we had to first complete a few assignments. The assignments included; background interview packet, practice interviews and created many follow up questions. The point of doing the assignments was to prepare us for the actual interview because we only have one chance to conduct an actual interview. So the interview packet made us researcher historical events that occurred indirectly to our interviewee so we could create thoughtful follow up questions.
Interview
The interview was conducted at the mutual place were I met Mr. Mike Moore; I met him at the ranch were we bored our horses. It was a warm overcast Sunday in October, we sat in his little tack room that he built. Once we were settled I started his life in chronological order with where he was born. In the beginning of the interview it was a bit awkward because I was a little nervous about messing up. However, as it continued I became more comfortable, until I asked a question and Mr. Mike didn't want to answer. He polity shoot down my question and I was shocked; I never heard no before in an interview. I just continued the interview and the rest went smoothly and the interview lasted about forty-five minuets.
Interview Outline
To the right is the interview outline and it is has every part of Mr. Mikes interview. From beginning to end, some parts are word for word but most of it is shorthand. The outline proved help full when I needed to transcribe and remember the interview.

SCRIPT outline
The script outline to the right is the most interesting parts of the interview transcribed word for word. I went through the entire interview outline choosing my favorite parts and then collecting them all to try and form a script.

official script
After the whole processes this script is the final product of the whole project. In the script I tried to capture Mr. Mike's caring personality, hard working spirit and wise soul through his own words. This is a person who I respect and should be honored and remembered.

Project reflection
I choose to interview this man; Mike Moore, because ever since I met him I knew he is a true American who represents my culture. He has worked hard from a very young age, never giving up and I am afraid that he, like many others will not be remembered. Mr. Mike is part of the generation that has formed our country and if his story is not heard or remembered then it was a waste. I also have to much respect for Mike to not tell others about him.
I have always had a good sense of character about Mr. Mike, but I did not know much about him. I learned that he grew up in a small town in Nebraska, had his first job at a young age, had a child at 18, joined the military for a number of years and how he became the person he is today.
At first it was hard for me to tell if Mr. Mike liked me interviewing him, but in the end I know he was glad that he let me interview him. Having your story be heard and read is powerful for someone, because they now know that someone will know who they once were. Someone else I would greatly enjoy interviewing would be my dad. I have heard at least all his stories about a hundred times, but I want to take the time to sit down, record and transcribe his story. My dad is a lot like me and I know I can learn a lot from him even if he is gone. He also deserves to be remembered.
