my internship journey
The office of the HONORABLE congressman juan vargas internship
Meet my mentors
Stephanie allen
Stephanie was my main mentor, my interviewer and my go to person when I ran into trouble. Her title is casework manager and she deals with education, community outreach and any other constituent problems in the 51st Congressional District. Through these four weeks I feel like I have bonded the most with her out of the three caseworkers. I have found a new respect for local government due to Ms. Stephanie.
PAOLA GUZMAN
Paola is a caseworker that mainly deals with immigration and environmental issues. While I was in the office Paola successfully stopped a deportation. She also allowed me to listen in on a phone call meeting concerning the Tijuana River Valley.
Jenn madenado
Mrs. Jenn was my caseworker that I shadowed and worked directly for. She mainly handles any military case such as; VA, Social Security, military recognition and the such. She is also in charge of the service academy nomination, so this gave me some inside insight to that process. She is currently trying to put a veterans project in motion, and when I come back to the office I plan to help get it rolling.
Office life
Life at the front desk, I am the first point of contact for any constituent.
Constituent surveys that have been read, understood and placed in the system.
Part of the job is to always stay up to date on whats happening in DC.
A big part of this internship was connecting to constituents through the phone
My reward for completing this internship.
